Donald Gay Sr was born January 12, 1943 in Wake County to Bertie G. Gay and Grace Perry Gay. During his high school years, he played sports where was given the nickname "Duck". Mr. Gay graduated from Knightdale High School in 1961 and married the love of his life, Doris Marie Jones Gay, on February 19, 1961. After graduation, Mr. Gay joined the United States Air Force on July 14, 1961 and retired 20 years later. He then began his second career with Bayer Crop Science and retired from that after 27 years. As long as his health permitted, Don was very committed to his family, friends, and Bethlehem Baptist Church.
