Household hazardous waste is not collected by the Town of Knightdale due to its caustic properties and potential for environmental contamination; however, Wake County operates a household hazardous waste disposal program that is open to Knightdale residents at the following locations:

 - mercury thermometers
 - paints / lacquers / polishes
 - pesticides / herbicides poisons
 - photographic chemicals
 - solvents / thinners / wood preservatives

- ammunition
 - commercially generated waste
 - explosives / shock sensitive items
 - hypodermic needles / syringes
 - medical waste
 - radioactive materials
