Grady Douglas grew up on a family owned tobacco farm in the Knightdale area. From childhood, he developed a strong work ethic. He graduated from Knightdale High School, attended Campbell College, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Upon discharge, he returned to the family farm. He and his wife, Josie Woodard, had two children. In 1964, Grady became the Knightdale Postmaster. He retired in 1987. After retirement, he enjoyed volunteering with the youth ministry at Bethlehem Baptist Church and at East Wake High School. He passed away in 2002.
