The Town of Knightdale held a grand opening and uncoupling ceremony for its newest public safety building and resource, Fire Station No. 4, on Friday, March 1, 2024. Citizens and officials from Knightdale and Wake County gathered at the new station, located at 1325 Hodge Road in Knightdale.
The new fire station is approximately 10,000 square feet and cost roughly $6.6 million. Thirty percent of the project’s cost was funded by Wake County through a cost share agreement. Station 4 is the first of three major public safety facility projects the Town is in the process of building.
“Station 4 is a long-needed addition to the town's public safety facilities,” said Fire Chief Loren Cone. “With the addition of this state-of-the-art station, we will be able to provide emergency services to the western part of the town more quickly and efficiently, resulting in improved outcomes for our citizens. I’m pleased and thankful to be able to bring a facility of this caliber online for our staff and community.”
Mayor Jessica Day agreed. “Knightdale continues to invest in state-of-the-art public safety resources to facilitate trust in our communities, and to let citizens know their welfare is and will always be our top priority. Chief Cone and his team do an exceptional job of helping us facilitate that.”
Guests in attendance for the event included: Knightdale Mayor Jessica Day; Knightdale Town Councilors Latatious Morris (Mayor Pro Tem), Ben McDonald, and Steve Evans; State Representative James Roberson; and Wake County Commissioners Shinica Thomas (Chair) and Don Mial.
Knightdale Fire Department will continue celebrating the new station with a Community Open House on Saturday, March 2, from 10 am to 3 pm, at the same location.
