KNIGHTDALE, NC – The Town of Knightdale hosted its Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 27, at the Veterans Memorial in Knightdale Station Park. The event is held annually to honor local military veterans who served in any of the armed forces, and to display new names that have been engraved in the monuments at the Veterans Memorial.
Mayor Jessica Day presided over Monday’s ceremony, and she was supported by the Knightdale Fire Department Honor Guard, Pastor Jared Scott (Green Pines Baptist Church), Andrew Mills (Bugles Across America), and a host of volunteers from the Veterans Memorial Advisory Board and the Knightdale community. This year’s keynote speaker was Lieutenant General Robert Ashley, Jr. (Retired), of Wake Forest.
“This is always such a special event for us,” Mayor Day said. “Our community always steps up to support and remember our military veterans, which is why we chose to put the Veterans Memorial in the heart of town. We owe so much to them, and we owe more to those who paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we enjoy.”
Noted guests at the event included Town Council member Mark Swan, Mayor Pro Tem Latatious Morris, NC Representative James Roberson, Wake County Commissioner Don Mial, NC Senator Dan Blue, and Wake County District Court Judge Julie Bell.
