Knightdale's New Fire Chief - Loren Cone

The Town of Knightdale announced the hiring of Loren Cone as Fire Chief in September.
He will oversee the town’s department providing fire prevention and suppression
services to the citizens of Knightdale.

Chief Cone has nearly 30 years of experience in fire service. Starting as a volunteer, he
served in a variety of positions throughout his career in both Wake and Durham Counties.
For the past 21 years, Cone has served with the Cary Fire Department, spending the last 5
years as an Assistant Fire Chief focusing on the administrative and training sections of the
department. Chief Cone said, “I am incredibly honored and excited to be a part of this great
team of men and women. I am looking forward to the many opportunities that working in
such an exceptional community will bring, while working to provide excellent service to
Knightdale’s residents and businesses.”

“We are thrilled to have Chief Cone join the Knightdale Fire Department. His extensive
knowledge and expertise in fire service make him the ideal candidate to lead our
department as Knightdale continues to grow,” Town Manager Bill Summers said. “He is
a solid leader whose reputation precedes him and will be an excellent addition to our
organization and we look forward to his work to keep Knightdale residents safe.”

Cone holds dual associate degrees in both Fire Science and Paramedicine. He
completed his Bachelor of Applied Science at Campbell University. He is a graduate of the
Master of Public Administration program at North Carolina Central University. He is a
certified paramedic and an instructor of fire and EMS. Cone is credentialed as a Chief
Fire Officer through the Center for Public Safety Excellence. He is married with two
children and is a native of Durham.
