3rd Annual Live Like Ryan Memorial 5K

LLR5K 2024

The town of Knightdale hosted its annual Live Like Ryan Memorial 5K Run on Saturday, October 19, at Knightdale Station Park. The event was held in honor of fallen officer Ryan Hayworth, who was killed in the line of duty on October 17, 2021.

This is the third year that Knightdale has held the 5K memorial run, which is always held around the anniversary of his passing. An estimated 150 people came out to participate in the event, which began at 8:00 in the morning. Members of Officer Hayworth’s family, Knightdale Police Department, volunteers, runners and walkers of all ages joined together for the run.

“We honor Ryan every year with this event because of the powerful impact his life had on our community in a short amount of time,” Knightdale Police Chief Lawrence Capps said. “Officer Hayworth learned, lived and exemplified values that are important to the Knightdale Police Department and our community. It is my hope that each person affected by Ryan’s integrity and selflessness chooses to embody the best of the human spirit as he did. That’s what it means to truly Live Like Ryan.”

Special Thanks to our sponsors, volunteers, and all participants who made this year’s race a resounding success. Together, we’re keeping Ryan’s legacy alive and building a brighter future for Knightdale.

All proceeds from the event and its registration will be donated to the Live Like Ryan Foundation, a charitable organization that provides funding assistance for service-minded youth. For more information, visit https://www.livelikeryan.com/
